World Breastfeeding Week 2025 Celebrations
As part of the LEAD project, LMRF, in collaboration with study site partners, organized awareness activities during World Breastfeeding Week (1–7 August 2025) across Nagpur, Belagavi, and Wardha. The initiative aimed to promote early initiation of breastfeeding, exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months, and strengthening family and community support.
- Nagpur: Community sessions in Indora slum on breastfeeding techniques, maternal nutrition, and government schemes, supported by interactive drama.
- Belagavi: Awareness talks on family support and the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative, along with a radio programme on KLE Venudhwani 90.4 FM.
- Wardha: Hospital-based demonstrations on breastfeeding positions and benefits for both mother and child.
Across all sites, pregnant and lactating women, families, and healthcare staff actively participated in these celebrations.
The LEAD (Learn, Eat and Develop) intervention is a novel, community-based digital approach designed to improve maternal and child health outcomes in urban slums by addressing the critical gaps in health promotion awareness and child care practices. The LEAD intervention comprises three key components: i) the M-SAKHI Android-based app, ii) mobile phone-to-phone counseling, and iii) an Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) parenting curriculum.
